Vitamins
Types and Examples of Foods
There are two types of vitamins: fat-soluble and water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in your fat cells. Water-soluble vitamins are not stored in your body, therefore, they need to be replenished daily. Your body takes what it needs from the food you eat and then excretes what is not needed as waste. Here is a list of vitamin types and some common food sources:
The fat-soluble vitamins:
Vitamin A – comes from orange colored fruits and vegetables; dark leafy greens, like kale
Vitamin D – can be found in fortified milk and dairy products; cereals; and of course, sunshine.
Vitamin E – is found in fortified cereals, leafy green vegetables, seeds, and nuts
Vitamin K – can be found in dark green leafy vegetables and turnip/beet greens
The water-soluble vitamins:
Vitamin B1 or Thiamin – come from whole grains, enriched grains; liver; nuts, and seeds
Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin – comes from whole grains, enriched grains, and dairy products
Vitamin B3 or Niacin – comes from meat, fish, poultry, and whole grains
Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic Acid – comes from meat, poultry, and whole grains
Vitamin B6 or Pyridoxine – comes from fortified cereals and soy products
Vitamin B7 or Biotin – is found in fruits and meats
Vitamin B9 or Folic Acid (Folate) – comes from leafy vegetables
Vitamin B12 – comes from fish, poultry, meat and dairy products
Vitamin C – citrus fruits & juices, such as oranges & grapefruits; red, yellow & green peppers
Vitamin A - One of the vitamin A’s main roles is in the production of retinal. Your body uses retinal in the rods and cones of your eyes to sense light and help prevent night blindness. Vitamin A is also important for your teeth, bones, skin, reproduction, and a healthy immune system.
B Complex Vitamins - Include (B1), (B2), (B3), (B5), (B6), (B7), (B9) and B12. They serve many purposes in your body, including aiding in energy production, making red blood cells, and making new DNA, so cells can multiply. They are also required for healthy nerve and brain function, intestinal health, and cardiovascular health
Vitamin C - Vitamin C, an antioxidant, may help prevent cell damage and reduce risk for certain cancers, heart disease and other diseases. It is vital to the formation of collagen, which keeps your blood vessels strong and holds your teeth in their sockets. Also, Vitamin C is important to wound healing and helps your body absorb iron.
Vitamin D – Helps to absorb calcium and promotes bone growth. Decreases depression and chances of developing heart disease.
Vitamin E - Assists in preventing coronary heart disease, prevents inflammation, promotes eye health and lowers risk of cancer. Improves the health of your blood, brain and skin.
Minerals
Minerals are needed for good health. Your body needs minerals to perform different functions, from building healthy bones to transmitting electrical impulses along nerves. In fact, some minerals help maintain a normal heartbeat and make hormones. Minerals are inorganic compounds needed by your body to regulate chemical reactions and maintain structures. Being inorganic means they do not contain carbon, which is one of the things that makes them different from vitamins. When something is organic we can say that it is derived from living matter. This is not the case for inorganic substances, which explains why minerals can be found in things like the ground beneath your feet and the jewelry and makeup you wear on your body.
Minerals are found in plant-based food because plants pick up minerals from the soil they grow in. These minerals are then transferred to you when you eat fruits, veggies and grains throughout your day. Major minerals are what your body needs in relatively large (or major) quantities. They include sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and sulfur. Trace minerals are what your body needs in relatively small (or trace) quantities. They include iron, zinc, iodine, copper, manganese, fluoride, selenium, chromium and molybdenum.
Antioxidants
Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress Oxidative stress occurs when the production of free radicals goes beyond the protective defenses in the body. Oxidative stress and free radical damage to cells may initiate the early stages of cancer and heart disease. Free radicals are also suspect in the development of Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, cataract, diabetes, kidney disease, and age-related blindness. Once formed, free radicals can start a chain of damaging chemical reactions. The biggest danger to the human body is their potential to react with cellular components like DNA or the cell membrane, causing cells to function poorly or die. Free radicals are not only generated by the body, they are present in foods you eat as well as in the air your breathe. Some even come through exposure to sunlight that can harm the eyes and skin. Free radicals can trap low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in an artery wall and begin the formation of plaque; they can damage DNA; or they can change the course of what enters and leaves a cell.
Different Antioxidants Benefit Different Parts of the Body
There are a wide range of antioxidants found in nature, and because they are so varied, different antioxidants provide benefits to different parts of the body. For example, beta-carotene (and other carotenoids) is very beneficial to eye health; lycopene is beneficial for helping maintain prostate health; flavonoids are especially beneficial for heart health; and proanthocyanidins are beneficial for urinary tract health. Antioxidants help skin health and benefit the immune system.
Additional Ways Antioxidants Help Benefit One’s Health
Increasing one’s antioxidant intake is essential for optimum health, especially in today’s polluted world. A good amount of these vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and enzymes must come from one’s daily diet. Boosting your antioxidant intake can help provide protection for the body against:
• Immune system problems
• Eye problems
• Memory problems
• Mood disorders
Digestive Enzymes
Inadequate enzyme production can lead to digestive discomfort, gas, bloating, low energy and allergy-like reactions to food. The three main categories of digestive enzymes are amylase, protease and lipase. We eat food, but our digestive system doesn’t absorb food, it absorbs nutrients. Food has to be broken down from things like steak and broccoli into its nutrient pieces: amino acids (from proteins), fatty acids and cholesterol (from fats), and simple sugars (from carbohydrates), as well as vitamins, minerals and a variety of other plant and animal compounds. Digestive Enzymes, primarily produced in the pancreas and small intestine, break down our food into nutrients so that our bodies can absorb them. If we don’t have enough digestive enzymes, we can’t break down our food – which means even though we’re eating well, we aren’t absorbing all that good nutrition.
What would cause digestion enzymes to stop working correctly in the body?
• Pancreatic problems
• Celiac diseases
• Low-grade inflammation in the digestive tract
• Aging
• Low stomach acid
• Chronic stress
Symptoms that suggest you might have problems with digestion enzymes are:
• Gas and bloating after meals
• The sensation that you have food sitting in your stomach (a rock in your gut)
• Feeling full after eating only a few bites of food
• Undigested food in your stool
• Floating stools (occasionally is fine, but consistently might be a sign something is wrong)
• An “oil slick” in the toilet bowl (undigested fat)
Proteolytic Enzymes
Proteolytic enzymes help with everything from inflammation and autoimmune conditions to heart disease and plaque. Here are some of the profound benefits of supplementing with a dedicated proteolytic formula:
• Reducing inflammation
• Cleansing the blood of debris
• Dissolving fibrin in the blood, reducing risk of clots
• Maximized immune system
• Killing of bacteria, viruses, molds and fungi
• Elimination of autoimmune diseases
• Dissolving of scar tissue
• Reducing the symptoms of MS, clean out the lungs and aiding in detoxing
The vast majority of metabolic enzyme (not digestive enzymes) in the body are proteases, or proteolytic enzymes which regulate protein function in the body.
• Immune system problems
• Eye problems
• Memory problems
• Mood disorders
Betaine HCL
One of the most common methods of supplementing for low stomach acid is using Betaine Hydrochloride (HCL). Betaine HCL increases the level of hydrochloric acid in the stomach necessary for proper digestion and assimilation of nutrients from food. Normal levels of hydrochloric acid are required for complete digestion of proteins and absorption of amino acids. Betaine HCL helps to restore the proper acid levels in the stomach and maintain healthy GI function. In case you didn’t know, stomach acid is a key component of our immune system needed to kill off any potential pathogenic bugs in our food. If the acid levels aren’t strong enough, besides not properly sterilizing our food, the stomach could delay emptying which can cause a multitude of digestive problems.
How to figure out your Betaine HCL dose
Each person will have a specific supplementary HCL dosage. Unfortunately, there isn’t a special formula I can give you to figure it out. This is a case of trial and error until you get to the correct dosage. Failing to get to your correct dosage can remove the benefits of supplementing. You must find the right dosage for your situation. If you fail to do the trial and error you’re wasting your time and money. This is a very common problem. Remember, the stomach is purposely built to handle extreme acid environments. If your correct dosage is 2400 mg and you’re only taking 1200 mg, you’re not really doing your stomach any favors.
You must follow the process below to figure out the right dosage to get the maximum benefit.
1. Eat a meal that contains at lease 15-20 grams of protein (about 4-6 ounces of meat).
2. Start by taking 1 pill (650 mg or less) of Betaine HCL during the beginning of the meal.
3. Finish the meal as normal and observe your body for any changes in feeling associated with the stomach and belly button area. Things to look for: heaviness, hotness, burning, or other GI distress.
4. Stay at this dosage of 1 pill for another day of meals with protein and if you don’t notice anything on the 3rd day, try 2 pills.
5. Stay there for another day and then try 3 pills.
6. Keep increasing the number of pills taken with each meal until you notice some GI discomfort described in step #3.
7. When this happens, you will know you ideal Betaine HCL dosage is 1 pill less. For example, if you felt the discomfort going from 5 pills to 6 pills, then 5 pills is your proper dosage.
When people experience deficiencies in producing stomach acid, they are more likely to have bacterial and intestinal infections and the increased presence of harmful organisms. Betaine HCL helps the stomach break down fat and protein in the food, it also assists the body’s detoxification processes. It is an essential component for metabolizing and absorbing food and helps assimilate proteins, vitamin B-12, calcium and iron.
Betaine HCL is a powerful digestive aid. Conditions Betaine HCL may help:
• Acne and Skin disorders
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Diarrhea
• Gallstones
• Stomach ulcer
• Chronic hives
• Food sensitivities • Thyroid function
• Inner ear infections
• Iron-deficiency anemia
• Candida & yeast infections
• Stomach or esophageal disorders
• General malabsorption of nutrients
• General indigestion and heart burn
• Acetaminophen-induced live toxicity
• Arteriosclerosis (loss of elasticity in the arteries)
How to get more Betaine HCL A high-quality Betaine HCL supplement can support digestion and aid in the absorption of many essential vitamins and nutrients. If you are considering taking a Betaine HCL supplement, it should not contain fillers or additives of any kind.
Probiotics
Probiotics are bacteria that line your digestive tract and support your body’s ability to absorb nutrients and fight infection. There are actual 10 times more probiotics in your gut than cells in your body. Probiotics hold the key not just for better health and a stronger immune system, but also for treating digestive issues, mental health illness and neurological disorders.
Probiotic benefits begin in the gut
The first and most overlooked reason that our digestive tracts are critical to our health is because 80 percent of your entire immune system is located in your digestive tract! That is an astounding percentage. In addition to the impact on our immune systems, our digestive systems are the second largest part of our neurological system. It’s called the enteric nervous system and it is located in the gut. This is why it’s called our second brain!
The many toxins we’re subjected to today decrease digestive function, affecting our ability to utilize nutrients and rid ourselves of cholesterol, triggering chronic inflammation in the body which is the cause of many chronic conditions and diseases.
The secret to restoring your digestive health is all about balancing out the good and bad bacteria in our gut. If you’re going to be healthy, you MUST consider consuming probiotic-rich foods and supplements daily.
The top 7 probiotic killers
Most people, including children, are in need of a probiotic boost due to the use of prescription mediation, particularly antibiotics, as well as high-carbohydrate diets, the consumption of chlorinated and fluoridated water, and conventional foods, such as non-organic meat and dairy that contain antibiotic residues. These chemicals kill off probiotics in your system, which over time damages your digestive tract.
Prebiotics
Probiotics are live bacteria in yogurt, other dairy products, and pills. Doctors often prescribe probiotics to patients on antibiotics in an attempt to combat gastrointestinal side effects of the medication. The prebiotic is a specialized plant fiber that beneficially nourishes the good bacteria already in the large bowel or colon. While probiotics introduce good bacteria into the gut, prebiotics act as a fertilizer for the good bacteria that’s already there. They help your good bacteria grow, improving the good-to-bad bacteria ratio. This ratio has been shown to have a direct correlation to your health and overall wellbeing, from your stomach to your brain.
You can take probiotics and prebiotics together. Prebiotics do not negatively interact with probiotics. Prebiotics do not interfere with medications either. High-quality probiotics and prebiotics are safe when taken together.
D - Mannose
D- Mannose helps prevent UTI’s caused by E. coli bacteria, responsible for 90% of all urinary tract infections. Sounds great, but what is D-Mannose? And what D-Mannose dose is good for treatment and prevention of UTI’s? D-Mannose is actually a type of sugar! But not your regular sugar (glucose), which goes with your coffee. Your body does not metabolize D-Mannose like other sugars, and that’s why D-Mannose does not affect blood sugar levels, and therefore is safe for diabetics and does not cause weight gain.
The number one common mistake is drinking your first does of D-Mannose with a lot of water. If you just took D-Mannose, pause and wait before drinking a lot of water. If you are drinking too much water right away, you are diluting the concentration of D-Mannose in your bladder.
• Take your dose with no more than half a glass of water.
• Then wait for about 45 mins to an hour.
• After that drink plenty of water in order to get rid of harmful bacteria.
This way concentrate D-Mannose has more time to being with E. coli bacteria before you flush them with water.
Try the typical D-Mannose dose for UTI treatment: 500 mg (capsule form) or one-half to one teaspoon (powder) in a half glass of water every two to three hours for five days. Drink plenty of water between doses. You can take “preventive” dose safely for as long as you want. Take D-Mannose every time you think your vaginal flora is compromised (with the first signs of yeast infection, when consuming a lot of sugar, stressful times, after sex, etc).
E. coli and D-Mannose
Apparently, E. coli bacteria that causes 90% of all urinary tract infections, adheres to the sugar (mannose) that is naturally available on your bladder walls. Yes, the bacteria have a sweet tooth! Once they are stuck to the bladder lining, nothing can peel them off. That’s why just drinking water is not helpful. Therefore, traditionally the next step is to kill those harmful E. coli with antibiotics. However, when D-mannose is available in abundance in urine E. coli will go after it and let go of your bladder walls. As soon as bacteria are re-attached to the free floating D-Mannose they are quickly flushed away during urination. The remainder are killed by your white blood cells and other immune cells. Because of the D-Mannose molecule’s ability to circulate throughout the urinary tract, they can help eliminate E. coli attached to the prostate gland.
D-Mannose in your body
D-Mannose is a monosaccharide, a simple sugar but unlike glucose in your body absorbs D-Mannose eight times slower. Because it is hard for our bodies to absorb D-Mannose, it passes straight to the blood stream, then through the kidneys into the bladder. Your body does not metabolize D-Mannose like other sugars, and that’s why D-Mannose powder does not affect blood sugar levels, and therefore is safe for diabetics. D-Mannose does not kill the bacteria and therefore does not increase it’s resistance.
D-Mannose powder is a natural remedy and is truly wonderful:
• It has no serious side effects. It will not cause allergic reactions
• It will not destroy your other friendly bacteria. It is safe for pregnant women and diabetics
Disclaimer
D-Mannose is a food supplement and FDA does not regulate it. A dietary supplement product does not “diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease,” because only a drug can legally make such a claim. There is not enough scientific evidence that D-Mannose can treat a UTI, therefore, try it at your own risk and closely monitor your symptoms.

Essiac Tea
Essiac tea is a traditional Native American formula that was rediscovered by cancer nurse Rene Caisse of Canada, and this natural cancer treatment was perfected through years of clinical studies. The original Essiac mixture is made up of four ingredients: burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm and Indian (or Turkey) rhubarb root. A similar product known as Flor Essence has the same Essiac ingredients plus four additional ones: watercress, blessed thistle, red clover and kelp.
Essiac tea is said to enable the body to effectively remove toxins and wastes, permitting for cellular renewal and revitalized health. Essiac tea is a mixture of plant ingredients that purportedly fights cancer and other serious health problems, like gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes and even AIDS. Essiac tea is taken orally and typically on an empty stomach. The dosage of Essiac tea depends on the condition. As an immune tonic or for very mild ailments, it’s typical to take two ounces once a day. For cancer or other serious ailments, the frequency can raise to three times daily with up to three ounces each time.
•Reduces Inflammation - Sheep sorrel, one of the four key ingredients in Essaic tea, is commonly used to help reduce inflammation and pain. The tannins present in sheep sorrel also help to decrease the overproduction of mucus.
•Detoxify the Body - Burdock root is an awesome blood purifier that clears out toxins from the bloodstream. Turkey rhubarb root also helps detoxify the system by acting as a gentle yet highly effective laxative. It also helps support a liver cleanse by removing waste from the liver, furthering Essiac tea’s detoxifying effects. Slippery elm contains mucilage, a substance that becomes a slick gel when mixed with water. This mucilage coats and soothes the lining of the mouth, throat, stomach and intestines. Slippery elm is also high in antioxidants and calms the inflammation that comes with gastrointestinal conditions.
•Strengthens the Immune System - Essiac tea helps detox the lymphatic system, a process which is excellent for the immune system and body as a whole
Chlorella
Chlorella, which is fresh water algae native to Taiwan and Japan, boosts your energy, supports fat loss and helps detox heavy metals like lead and mercury from your body. This superfood is rich with phytonutrients, including amino acids, chlorophyll, beta-carotene, potassium, phosphorus, biotin, magnesium and B-complex vitamins.
Detoxification of our bodies
Chlorella’s rich green color comes from a high concentration of chlorophyll. You can receive all of the chlorella benefits in a powder or tablet form. Here are six scientifically proven chlorella benefits by incorporating organic, low temperature-extracted superfood into your daily diet:
1. Detoxifies Heavy Metals – if you have mercury fillings in your teeth, have been vaccinated, eat fish regularly, have been exposed to radiation, or consume foods from China, you may have heavy metals lurking in your body. One of chlorella’s most significant health benefits is that it wraps itself around even stubborn toxins residing in our bodies, such as lead, cadmium, mercury and uranium, and keeps them from being reabsorbed. Regular consumption of chlorella can even help keep heavy metals from accumulating in our bodies’ soft tissues and organs in the first place.
2. Detoxifies Radiation and Chemotherapy – Anyone who has gone through either of these treatments knows what a toll they take on the body. Chlorella’s high levels of chlorophyll have been shown to protect the body against ultraviolet radiation treatments while removing radioactive particles from the body. According to researchers from Virginia CU Medical College, “Cellular components and functions of the immune system remain at or near normal levels and are less adversely affected when patients are undergoing chemotherapy and/or taking immunosupressive medications such as steroids.” Researchers observed that glioma-positive patients have fewer respiratory infections and flu-like illnesses and side affects from chemotherapy when taking chlorella.
3. Promotes Weight Loss – In a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food, researchers state, “Chlorella intake resulted in noticeable reductions in body fat percentage, serum total cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose levels.” Chlorella benefits you by helping to regulate hormones, helping with metabolism, improving circulation, and promoting higher levels of energy. It also helps to reduce weight and body fat, and removes stored toxins. As our bodies lose weight, toxins are released, and can be reabsorbed. It is important to flush these toxins out of our system as quickly as possible. Chlorella surrounds toxins and heavy metals in our bodies and facilitates elimination and prevent reabsorption.
4. Make You Look Younger – Research continues to reveal that chlorella may also slow the aging process, making you look younger. A study published in the journal Clinical Laboratory revealed that chlorella greatly reduces oxidative stress, that can be caused from pollution, stress and a poor diet. The reason chlorella is so effective at giving you younger looking skin is because it naturally increases levels of vitamin A, vitamin C and glutathione in your body which eliminates free-radicals and protects your cells. By just taking one teaspoon or a couple capsules daily of a chlorella supplement, you can see results in as little as two weeks.
5. Fights Cancer – Because it removes heavy metals and toxins from our body, we are less likely to get environmentally based cancers. Studies have shown that individuals once diagnosed with cancer, chlorella enhances the action of T cells helping fight new abnormal cells. Chlorella supports the entire immune system.
6. Lowers Your Blood Sugar and Cholesterol – Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol are two of the serious chronic conditions facing many Americans today. Years of improper eating, stress and a lack of sleep have led many to one or both of these diagnoses. In a study published by Journal of Medicinal Food, researchers found that doses of 8,000 mg of chlorella per day (divided into 2 doses), helps lower cholesterol and blood glucose levels. Researchers observed first a decline in cholesterol levels, and the improvement in blood glucose. They believe that chlorella activates a number of genes at the cellular level that improve insulin sensitivity, encouraging a health balance.
Both spirulina and chlorella have a concentrated balance of nutrients shown to help cleanse and detoxify the body, and a high concentration of protein that supports energy and clarity. In fact, spirulina has been used in the World Health Organization’s feeding programs for malnourished children in underdeveloped countries. A single one-gram dose of spirulina a day can counteract Vitamin A deficiency that can lead to blindness. Chlorella’s protein levels, and combination of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients and phytochemicals go one step beyond spirulina. When used in tandem, their powers intensify.
Adaptogens
To qualify as an adaptogen, an herb must be completely safe and non-toxic, it must have broad uses for health, and it must specifically reduce stress, both mental and physical. To put it simply: Adaptogens help you adapt. The following herbs demonstrate significant adaptogenic activity:
• Ashwagandha – Of all the medicinal plants used in India’s several millennia old traditions of Ayurveda, Ashwagandha Withania somnifera, is the most highly prized.
• Eleuthero – Employed in Traditional Chines Medicine to invigorate sexual function, boost vital energy and normalize overall body functions. Eleuthero is classified as an adaptogen, enhancing immunity and vitality overall.
• Holy Basil – Holy Basil functions as an adaptogen, enhancing the body’s natural response to physical and emotional stress. Adaptogenic herbs do not alter mood, but rather, they help the body function optimally during times of stress.
• Maca – Maca has been dubbed “Peruvian Ginseng” thought it bears no relation to ginseng, but like ginseng, the root increases strength, energy, stamina, libido and sexual function.
• Panax Ginseng – Ginseng is a tonic herb used for rejuvenate and invigoration. It is considered an adaptogen providing non-specific protection against various mental, physical and environmental forms of stress.
• Rhodiola Rosea – a well studied adaptogen, Rhodiola defends the body overall, and protects general health and well-being. Its anti-stress and fatigue fighting properties make it one of the most popular botanicals in all of Siberia.
• Schisandra – Schisandra is a potent general tonic, decreasing fatigue, enhancing physical performance, and promoting endurance. The berry counters stress by reducing the levels of stress hormones in the blood.
Adaptogens greatly improve your body’s ability to adapt to stress, whether its a hectic schedule, heat or cold, noise, high altitudes or any number of other stressors. This elite class of herbs impart strength, energy, stamina, endurance, and they improve mental clarity. In many parts of the non-Western world adaptogens are used extensively in high-risk, fast-reflex occupations, from athletes to miners to deep sea divers. With the scientific data to back these natural wonders already available and more research under way, it is only a matter of time before adaptogens begin making their mark in the Western world.
Demulcent Herbs
Liver Herbs
One of the key products in any liver cleanse program is a combination of specially selected herbs that encourage your body to heal damaged liver cells, strengthen your liver’s ability to provide vital functions and stimulate flushing of wastes from your liver and gallbladder. Milk Thistle seed, Dandelion root, Burdock root, Gentian root, Parsley root are some of the traditional herbs proven to enhance liver function.
There are certain foods with a well-earned reputation for supporting and cleansing the liver. Adding any of these to your daily diet will provide extra nutritional support for this cleansing program.
Lemons – fresh lemon juice is the best food for helping your liver make more enzymes. The fresh juice has a chemical structure very similar to many of the body’s own digestive enzymes so it is great in providing raw materials for the creation of liver enzymes. As an antioxidant, lemon juice can work on and stabilize free radicals that are released into the bloodstream during digestion. An antiseptic, it also helps neutralize harmful bacteria. Fresh lemon juice squeezed into water is easy and is the top daily diet addition for cleansing and stimulating the liver.
Beets and beet tops are excellent for toning and rebuilding the liver. Beets are the richest food source of betaine, a natural liver detoxifier and bile thinner. They also increase the liver’s efficiency in processing fats. Beets are good sources of easily assimilable iron, B vitamins, and antioxidants. Shredded raw beets combined with a little lemon juice daily make a fantastic liver support dish. Beets can be boiled, roasted, grated raw or steamed in salad, or juiced with other vegetables.
Turmeric is spice strong in antioxidant which protects the liver and aids in liver regeneration. Use it in sauces, dips, stir fry, on vegetables and in stews and soups. A traditional Indian flavor.
Garlic activates liver enzymes responsible for absorbing nutrients and cleansing waste and toxins in liver tissue. The selenium and allicin in garlic are vital for correct liver functioning. Garlic also contains the amino acid methionine that aids the liver by cleansing pollutants through the urine.
Leafy Green Vegetables like chard, kale and collards, and broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts are high in antioxidants and other phytochemicals that the liver needs to produce enzymes for the detoxification process.
Avocados supply the liver with the antioxidant glutathione which it uses in detoxification and for repair of its own liver tissue.
Artichoke stimulates bile and contains antioxidants which help protect the liver.
Apples – Gallstones can form from too much cholesterol in your bile which causes it to solidify. The pectin in apples is high in soluble fiber which binds with fats and cholesterol. Pectin also helps bind heavy metals thus lightening the load on the liver for their detoxification.
Kidney Herbs
We often associate filters with keeping important things from getting dirty or becoming contaminated. Our bodies have their own filters. The kidneys contain about a million mini filters each. Our kidneys have many responsibilities which include cleansing our blood by filtering out excess water and unwanted waste from the bloodstream. These organs also help regulate blood pressure, maintain healthy electrolyte levels, and produce red blood cells. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and proper hydration are elemental in maintaining healthy kidneys.
The following are herbs that promote kidney health:
• Juniper Berries – The small Juniper berry is highly regarded as a blood purifying kidney tonic.
• Goldenrod helps detoxify the kidneys while promoting overall urinary tract health.
• Hydrangea Root – helps the body efficiently use calcium, which is the main component of 80% of kidney stones.
• Dandelion Root can help the body maintain healthy fluid levels and eliminate waste.
• Parsley is rich in antioxidants, highly nutritious and helps increase levels of fluid going through the kidneys.
• Marshmallow Root also increases urination and it can help soothe the tissues found in the urinary tract system.

Homeopathy
Aromatherapy
The Aura
The Sanskrit word Chakra literally translates to wheel or disk. In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the body. There are seven main chakras which align the spine starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. To visualize a chakra in the body, imagine a swirling wheel of energy where the matter and consciousness meet. This invisible energy, call Prana, is vital life force, which keeps vibrant, healthy and alive. These swirling wheels of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in the body. Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles of nerves and major organs as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. Since everything is moving, it’s essential that our seven main chakras stay open, aligned, and fluid. If there’s a blockage, energy cannot flow. Think of something as simple as your bathtub drain. If you allow too much hair to go into the drain, the bathtub will back up with water, stagnate and eventually bacteria and mold will grow. So it is with our bodies and the chakras. A bathtub is simple, it’s physical so the fix is easy.
Keeping a chakra open is a bit more of a challenge, but not so difficult when you have awareness. Since mind, body, soul, and spirit are intimately connected, awareness of an imbalance in one area will help bring the others back into balance. Take for example, a wife, who has recently lost her husband. She develops acute bronchitis, which remains in the chest, and then gets chest pains each time she coughs. The whole heart chakra is affected in this case. If she realizes the connection between the loss and the bronchitis, healing will occur much faster if she honors the grieving process and treats that as well as the physical ailment.

The aura is the electromagnetic field that surrounds the human body (Human Energy Field – HEF) and every organism and object in the universe. The Human Energy Field as a collection of electro-magnetic energies of varying densities that permeate through and emit or exit from the physical body of a living person. These particles of energy are suspended around the healthy human body in an oval shaped field. This “auric egg” emits out from the body approximately 2-3 feet on all sides. It extends above the head and below the feet into the ground.
The aura consists of seven levels/layers/auric bodies. Each one of the subtle bodies that exist around the physical body, has its own unique frequency. They are interrelated, and affect one another and the person’s feelings, emotions, thinking, behavior, and health as well. Therefore, a state of imbalance in one of the bodies leads to a state of imbalance in the others.

OcuGuard Plus with Lutein®
Nutritional Support for the Eyes
OcuGuard Plus with Lutein® is a more advanced vitamin and antioxidant supplement specifically formulated for the eyes. Each easy-to-swallow capsule provides a special combination of micronutrients the eyes may require, including high potencies of lutein and beta-carotene, which are potent antioxidant carotenoids. Lutein is the most abundant carotenoid in fruits and vegetables, and is found to be highly concentrated in the macula of the eye. Other nutrients included in this synergistic formula are zinc from zinc picolinate (a chelated form of zinc that is easy for the body to absorb and use), natural vitamin E, vitamin C, selenium, and much more. These are nutrients which many people may not get enough of in their regular diet alone, and which more and more scientific and medical research suggests contribute to proper ocular nutrition.
Facts about Lutein and the Eyes
Lutein is the most prevalent carotenoid found in fruits and vegetables. In the body lutein is specifically deposited in the macula portion of the eye where it helps build macular pigment density which is a critical factor in the health of the macula and of the retina. Macular pigment density is related to clarity of the lens of the eye. The body does not synthesize lutein so lutein must come from the diet. Dietary intake of lutein dramatically impacts the concentration found on the macula.
Lutein is a potent antioxidant and researchers believe that the retina requires it for protection from the damaging effects of light and oxygen. Both light and oxygen can create free radicals that play havoc with the abundant lipids in the membranes of the visual cells. Experts believe that the uncontrolled generation of free radicals in the eyes can ultimately lead to macular degeneration and cataracts.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness among Americans age 65 and older, and more than half of all Americans experience cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s lens. Preventative measures are important because eye diseases develop over a long period of time, and because there is no cure for AMD, and because cataracts must be surgically removed once vision is impaired.
Diet is important in reducing the risk of developing AMD or cataracts. One recent study found that people who consume plenty of fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious foods or take daily multiple vitamin supplements reducedtheir risk of developing cataracts by about 37%.
